ISCM World Music Days 2001 in Yokohama

Greetings

It gives me a great pleasure to hold and invite you to the "
World Music Days 2001 in Yokohama." Yokohama has first opened its door to the Western World in the middle of the 19th Century. Since then, we have obtained the modernized cultures through the door. Now in the first year of the new century, it is very significant to have a world-wide festival in Yokohama for the first time in our JSCM history since 1930 of its foundation. We believe the globalization means 'to understand the differences of each culture,' but not 'to blend in one culture.' We hope the World Music Days 2001 will be the first step of the era of the new music.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Yokohama in this Autumn.

Dear Friends,

ISCM World Music Days 2001 in Yokohama will be held from October 3rd to 10th, 2001 in Yokohama. Yokohama is Japan's major and historical harbour city and located in Metrpolitan area. This event is organized not only as an individual ISCM music festival but also as a complex festival with annual concert serieses and "Children's Future 2001" under the title of JSCM New Century Music Festival.

In this festival, large numbers of music, far over 100 works overlooking the world contemporary music scene in the last decade of the 20th century will be performed by various kinds of music groups and indivisual musicians. The performers are:groups;
Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Contemporary Music Ensemble Tokyo COmeT, Phonosphere Musicale String Ensemble, Art Respirant, Ensemble NOMAD, Quartet Excelsior, Ensemble d'Ame, and The Barton Workshop from The Netherlands and The Trio Haan from Korea, individual musicians; Hiroshi KOIZUMI/fl., Keizo MIZOIRI/cb., Kifu MITSUHASHI/shakuhachi, and others from Japan and abroad. We welcome to have and a few individual musicians from abroad.

We also have a cooperative support from educational institutions and other organizations such as
Toho Gakuen University Orchestra, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music Symphonic Wind Orchestra, and Kunitachi College of Music Department of Music Design, and YAMAHA Electronic Instrument Section and Mirkk Art Forum.

From Oct.6th to 8th, the special program "
Children's Future 2001" will be held. 'Children' will take the leading role of the program as they carry on the next generation of the music scene.

At the opening of the new century,
WMD2001 will seek a new style of festival featuring a relationship among the advanced arts, education and public appreciation as well as a conventional contemporary music festival. I am convinced that a new creative music culture of 21st century will start from this festival.
